Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@jsalonspa.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A Russian manicure is a dry, e-file based nail technique that originated in Eastern Europe. Instead of soaking the nails in water or using metal pushers, a trained technician uses an electric file with specialized drill bits to gently remove excess cuticle, dead skin, and pterygium. The result is a much cleaner, tighter cuticle line that allows gel to adhere further down the nail — meaning your manicure lasts significantly longer and looks more precise.

Yes — when performed by a trained, certified technician. The key word is trained. At J Salon, every technician is certified in e-file technique before seeing their first client. The e-file is used at very low speeds with appropriate bits, and we never cut live skin. The technique is gentler than traditional metal pusher methods when done correctly, and eliminates the bacterial risk of soaking nails in shared water.

Most clients return every 3–4 weeks. Because the cuticle work is so precise, gel adhesion is much stronger than a traditional manicure — you'll typically see less lifting and chipping. Exact longevity depends on your nail growth rate, lifestyle, and how much you use your hands. We recommend booking your next appointment before you leave to lock in your preferred time

A standard gel manicure pushes back or trims the cuticle with hand tools and often involves water soaking — which temporarily softens skin and creates a less precise working surface. Russian manicure skips the water, works dry with an e-file, and removes more of the dead skin around the nail bed. The result is a cleaner visual look, longer-lasting gel adhesion, and a more hygienic process overall.

A Smart Dry Pedicure is performed without a water soak basin. Instead, we use e-file tools and specialized bits to remove calluses, treat cuticles, and prepare the nail — all on dry skin. This is more hygienic (no shared water), more precise (wet skin is harder to work with), and actually more effective at callus removal. Products also adhere better to dry skin, so your pedicure lasts longer.

The easiest way is to book online — you can select your service, technician, and time in under 2 minutes. You can also call or text us at (773) 345-9292. We do not accept walk-ins, so please book in advance to guarantee your spot.

Yes — when booking online you can select your preferred technician. We strongly encourage this, especially if you've built a relationship with one of our team members. If your preferred tech isn't available, we'll let you know and can suggest the next available time that works.

Most of our clients book online and we do not have immediate availability for walk-in clients. Its always encouraged to call before coming or better book your appointment online.

We require a valid credit card to hold all appointments. No charge is made at the time of booking — the card is on file to enforce our cancellation policy. See our Salon Policy tab for full details.

Please text us immediately at (773) 345-9292 if you're running behind. Arrivals 10 or more minutes late may result in a shortened service or a need to reschedule — out of respect for the client booked after you. Consistent late arrivals may require a booking deposit going forward.

Because what we offer is fundamentally different. Russian manicure requires years of specialized e-file training and premium professional products. Our technicians are compensated fairly for their expertise. We also use higher-quality gels, sterilize all tools for every client, and provide a consistent result that many clients tell us they've never experienced at a lower-priced salon. When you factor in that our manicures last 3–4 weeks vs. 1–2 weeks, the cost-per-day is often comparable.

We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Cash is welcome. We do not accept personal checks. Tips can be given in cash or added to your card — all tips go directly to your technician.

We periodically run promotions — follow us on Instagram and sign up for our newsletter to stay in the loop. We also have an active gift card program and occasionally run seasonal specials. We don't discount our core services, as we believe our pricing reflects the quality and expertise we deliver.
